home made one pot mac 'n' cheese

8 ounces macaroni

3 cups milk

1 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup butter

2 cups of shredded cheddar

Directions:

-Melt butter or margarine in a large saucepan over medium medium heat. Add onions and saute. stir in flour and salt.

-Add milk and macaroni to saucepan raise heat to medium/high, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 15 minutes or until pasta is tender

-Add cheese and stir until cheese melts.

I liked the flavor from the onions. I thought it was unusual but tasty. I served the macaroni with cocktail wienies with barbecue sauce. The original recipe called for 1 1/2 cups of cheese but i thought that wasn't enough for 8 ounces of pasta. I used two different kinds of cheddar for this recipe. i really enjoyed this mac n cheese.

  1. different but tasty! I must agree it was a great idea that you added more cheese to your meal! usually when people make it, it is dry but yours was juicy and yummy! the onions added a great texture. I think I will add onions to all my mac and cheese...usually we add spam or sausage but yours was still flavorful
